TOP 5 | BENITA KOLOVOS’ SMASHED AVO’S IN MELBOURNE
MELBOURNE BASED BLOGGER AND JOURNALIST BENITA KOLOVOS IS THE ESSENCE OF THE MODERN WOMAN. HER BLOG BENITAKOLOVOS.COM ENCAPSULATES WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A ‘SMART GIRL’ AND A ‘PRETTY GIRL’ IN THE SAME SKIN. A PASSIONATE AND BOLD VOICE IN THE MARKET, BENITA IS BEAUTIFUL AND BRAVE – DON’T UNDERESTIMATE HER. HERE’S WHERE YOU’LL CATCH HER ENJOYING HER SMASHED AVO AND COFFEE ON THE WEEKEND…
Disclaimer: I’m a south of the Yarra girl, susceptible to bursts of hunger-induced rage. For me, breakfast (or brunch for that matter) needs to be within a 30-minute drive radius or I might murder someone. So big apologies to my friends of the west and the north- I’ll visit you for dinner.
Also excluded from my list is anything too pretentious. I like my breakfast assembled and my avocado already smashed. Call me old fashioned.
With that being said here are my top cafes for smashed avo in Melbourne.
I just love this health café’s simple combo of smashed avocado, mint, feta, lemon and pepper. Oh and pumpkin seeds to make you feel like a health goddess. I heard that if you order one of their raw organic super food smoothies you won’t have to exercise that day.

or Adelaide or Byron Bay
Tom Dick and Harry, South Yarra
These guys take the humble avocado on toast to the next level. It’s got chia-seeded toast, fresh raw greens, feta, corn, currents, almonds, pomegranate and even an edible violet or two. After your one-day cleanse at Combi, I think you’re entitled to treat yourself by adding bacon and grabbing one of their insane muffins for the road.
1/242 Toorak Rd,
South Yarra, Melbourne, AUSTRALIA
Deliciously sweet baked cherry tomatoes, creamy feta, egg (I have mine scrambled with herbs because I am weird), seasoned avocado and a generous piece of Kalamata olive bread. Need I say more?

Bentleigh East, Melbourne, AUSTRALIA
Uncle Bart, Black Rock
Uncle Bart is my local. I literally roll out of bed and into this café. The owner, Chris, says I don’t look like I do on Instagram, which is fair because when I come to his café I generally haven’t showered or even brushed my teeth. Charming, I know. But I love them and they love me (I hope).
I think I’ve tried absolutely everything on their menu, but I always come back to their smashed avocado. Simple and uncomplicated, Uncle Bart does a bit of a Greek spin with capers, feta and Spanish onion in the mix, and a balsamic glaze on the side. Coffee is 10/10 as well.

Tall Timber, Prahan
I’m a big fan of Tall Timber’s smashed avo with goat’s cheese and the most insane beetroot hummus. Which is weird, because in most everyday situations I absolutely hate beetroot and hummus. Here it not only works, but I love it. They’re super generous with their goat’s cheese too, which makes me very happy.
